Right now, naming or describing specific asexual identities in media is not seen as a successful marketing strategy, so creators are often discouraged from naming the sexuality in their content. This sometimes leads to authors confirming character identities outside of the story, or simply dropping hints for knowledgeable asexual audiences. This “word of God” representation does not reach broader audiences, and needs to change in order to move towards accurate and positive asexual representation. We first need to name asexuality on the page to more fully explore it.
